What Is Matter

Matter was created with one goal in mind, allow devices from different manufacturers to communicate together so they can all be controlled on one app.  

Think of MATTER as a language that all of your smart home devices can learn. Since they all understand the same language, they can now work together and understand each other. 

Most MATTER devices will soon have Thread. A low power redundancy system which will allows your smart devices to continue communicating with each other even when the internet goes out and the power to your home is off (using battery backup). 

Mesh Topology = Better connectivity  

Each Matter enabled device also acts as a signal repeater to further enhance the strength of your network.  Operating on the latest IPv6 platform, there is no such thing as too many devices. 

Self-Healing Protocol 

With  self-healing mesh technology, devices can talk directly to each other,  even without the internet. If a device is having as issue, the mesh  system will reroute traffic to keep all other devices up and running.  

Thread Government 

Being  an essential part of the today’s technology, Thread is governed by a  board of directors from Google, Samsung, Qualcomm, Apple, Lutron, Amazon  and a few others. With billions invested by today's largest tech firms,  thread has been designated as new operating standard.  

Thread Backup  

Low Power redundancy 6LoWPAN allows your battery backup devices to keep functioning even when your  network is down which is ideal for devices that must remain operational  at all times such as security cameras, thermostats, locks. Thread's  technology is not reliant on a home internet connection or WiFi.  Instead, it provides a dedicated network for connecting products around  the home. 

Security  

Thread features encryption by default which disallows data from interception.  The frequency is low powered radio technology IEEE.802.15.4
